Dutch tenor Marcel Beekman has made a name for himself in a wide-ranging concert repertoire as well as through his performances of character roles in both baroque and contemporary operas. He has appeared with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Wiener Philharmoniker, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestra of the 18th Century and Les Arts Florissants with conductors as William Christie, Marc Minkowski, Karina Canellakis, Reinbert de Leeuw and Frans Brüggen.
He sang first performances of works by composers like Louis Andriessen or Calliope Tsoupaki. Marcel Beekman performs worldwide in the great concert venues and opera houses. His appearance in the title role of Platée by Rameau became an international success [Vienna, Paris, New York, Barcelona and Stuttgart], followed by roles such as Mime in Wagner’s Der
Ring des Nibelungen [Vienna], Hauptmann in Wozzeck [Amsterdam], Nutrice in L’Incoronazione di Poppea [Salzburg/Vienna], Nodrice in La Finta Pazza [Dijon/Versailles/Amsterdam], Tanzmeister in Ariadne auf Naxos [Paris/Luxembourg], Pluton/Aristée in Orphée aux Enfers [Salzburg], Les 4 Valets in Les Contes d’Hoffmann [Valencia] and Bababeck in Offenbach’s Barkouf [Zürich].
This current season he performs in Alexander Raskatov’s new opera Animal Farm at DNO in Amsterdam and sings the role of Goro in Schumann’s Genoveva in Helsinki and Dresden. An extensive list of CD and DVD-recordings bears witness to
his artistic versatility.
